NEON for SCULPTURE
Working with M. Pimlott (English Designer/Lecturer) we were very proud to be chosen to fabricate this 3.2metre x 1metre (aprox. 10ft x 3ft) contemporary, loose feel, non-uniform spiral neon light sculpture.
The neon was made from 20mm soda glass burning very light pink in colour and mounted to a polished stainless steel super structure.
The sculpture was suspended from a central hub which was fabricated deep enough to house the required electrics inside it.
The glass itself was very difficult to sculpt to shape as it was known that the finished piece was to be appreciated from all angles, so continuous smooth flow of tube and three dimensional bend quality was of the utmost importance.
Fabrication of the piece was very time consuming, it required much ‘wide’ flame work and also a tremendous amount of ‘hand torch’ flame work to refine and tweak the diameter.
This was a commissioned piece of sculpture for supermarket chain owners and renown art collectors & connoisseurs, The Sainsbury Family.
